Headboards: match your mattress width

A headboard usually looks best a few inches wider than the mattress. Check how high your mattress sits so the headboard shows above it.
Stools: match your counter height

Leave 9 to 12 inches between the seat and the underside of the counter.
End-of-bed benches
Choose a bench a little narrower than your bed, and about as high as the top of your mattress or slightly lower.
